THE TRANQUIL WATERS OF THE GRAND CANAL

The Grand canal extends from Dublin across the vast central boglands to link with the mighty Shannon at Shannon harbour. A junction at Lowtown provides a link to the Barrow navigation along the Grand canal's Barrowline.

This old canal with elegant bridges and beautiful locks is a joy to cruise. The mixture of bogland and farmland along its banks harbour wild fowl and wild flowers in equal profusion. In the total peaceful silence of the remote central boglands the fast pace of modern civilisation soon fades into oblivion

Encompassed by nature, you soon feel the rejuvenated by this relaxing cruise
In the evening a friendly smile and cheery wave welcomes you to one of the many quiet villages and towns along its banks. Here you can replenish your larder, quench your thirst and enjoy the traditional entertainment in one of the many pubs.
